When Snoring Becomes a Problem

People often make fun of those who snore. The truth is, snoring is a real problem and affects around 90 million Americans. It is even the cause of some domestic disputes. If one spouse is afflicted with this condition, it can result in couples sleeping in separate rooms.

The serious problematic snorer may also suffer from sleep apnea, a condition in which a person stops breathing for a period of time. Frequent snoring can also lead to some serious medical conditions such as high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, and fatigue. If you snore, first get checked by a doctor and then try to eliminate this from your bedtime ritual.

First, it is important to find out what exactly causes snoring. Snoring is basically noisy breathing from your mouth or nose when you are sleeping. The noise is caused by an obstruction to your airflow, which can be caused by congestion from a blocked nose. It can also be caused by the base of your tongue or soft tissue in your upper palate or throat getting in the way of your airflow. When lying down, the congestion, tongue, or soft tissue falls back into your throat causing the obstruction. The cure is to eliminate this blockage and open the compressed airways. There are a number of remedies to achieve this.

Lifestyle changes are one area where your can try to correct this condition. Since excessive weight and alcohol abuse are often associated with snoring, exercise, weight loss, and abstinence from alcohol are all remedies. Smoking also contributes to changes in respiratory tissue that contribute to snoring, so quitting this habit may also help you.

Remedies also exist in the drug store. You can purchase over-the-counter remedies such as anti-snoring pills, throat sprays, and nasal strips. These are all aimed at preventing throat and nose swelling and promoting ease of airflow.

Remedies also exist in your sleep habits. First, sleeping pills and tranquilizers should be avoided, as well as allergy medications and antihistamines that cause extreme sedating effects. You should also try to get more sleep by going to bed earlier or sleeping later.

Another trick is to sleep on you stomach or side. Most people who snore sleep on their backs. This causes their tongues or tissues to obstruct their airways. A different sleep position may be an easy remedy for you. If you find you keep rolling into the back position during the night, sew a long pocket on the back of your pajama top and put tennis balls in it. When you roll on your back it will be too uncomfortable and you will revert to a side or stomach position.

Sleeping on a firm mattress may also help. This will enable you to keep your neck straight to reduce airway obstruction. You can also elevate your bed by placing blocks of wood under your headboard. This will eliminate the tissue from vibrating in your throat as much.

Adding pillows to your bed will also change your sleep angle and prop you up. But if the pillows are just kinking your neck, then get rid of all of them because they will be more of a hindrance than a help. The idea is to adjust the entire torso angle, not just the neck.

It is important to try to correct this condition of snoring , so as to not cause more problems to your life – whether they are domestic or physical. Some simple sleep or lifestyle habits are likely to help. If it becomes really bothersome, you can turn to dental implants, medication, or surgery options.

What is the best way to quit smoking?

I would love to hear from ex-smokers about how they quit smoking and any other tips they might have.

I used to smoke atleast 2 packets ,I was a chain smoker ,But I tried more than 100 times to quit smoking and I used to fail every time. After some days ,I realized abt this bad habit, also i used to get throat problems. So I hardly tried to quit,One of my friend said that to quit smoke we should forget fully and avoiding thinking about smoking makes to quit smoking,But unfortunately it is also failed,Yes we can stop thinking abt smoking ,But we can’t stop watching our eyes at other smokers.Thier we tempt,i taken this issue seriously ,Chewing gums, pills all of them failed. Then At last one thing worked for me that is diverting my interest to another entertainment thing, means I diverted my mind from cigarette smoking to other thing,Which I like morethan smoking. How I diverted? our mind remembers when somebody smoke, talks and when we get bored. So choosen internet and t.v,I am not gone out.I Just sitted in home Browsing and T.v after two days i fully forgotten Cigarette after one week doing like this I lost Interest upon cigarette,So to quit smoke you need lost interest,to loss interest upon cigartee You need to divertee your interest to another entertainment things which gives non stop entertain for atleast 8 days.( I already Posted same answer in other question also to help)

What is the easiest and most effective way to quit smoking?

I have been smoking for about 20 years (I am 35) and would love to give it up but I am really scared that I won’t be able to do it. My husband quit 5 years ago and has been on my case ever since to do the same. I wish I could wake up tomorrow and be a non-smoker. The problem is I still enjoy smoking maybe 10 out of the 20 cigarettes I have each day.

I’ve ‘quit’ before only to start up again. So you have to fix the way you look at it.
My mistakes when I quit:
1.I smoked my favorite cigarettes for a week (so I went from lights to full flavor)
2. I started running that day…so my nicotine levels dropped way to fast, and my skin crawled and it was hard
3. I craved a cigarette everytime I saw/felt a trigger.

This year I was ready.
1. I went to ultralights for the month prior
2. I didn’t quit…I realized that I was a non-smoker
3. Every trigger I had…I thought…that doesn’t make any sense, I am a non-smoker. I don’t get this craving.
4. Use a straw to occupy your hands. I cut a straw down to the size of a cigarette and breathed through the straw whenever I felt the craving for a cigarette…I didn’t need it after a few weeks.

Sep. 3,2006 I realized I was a non-smoker. I also went through a divorce during this time period…so I must have really wanted it or else my technique really worked well. I can be around people smoking, I can be in the same car while someone is smoking and I’ve held their lit cigarettes for them without wanting one…why…because I am a non-smoker.

Program your mind with what you are!

Good luck.

Hypnosis Therapy Has Helped Many People Overcome Life Threatening Behaviours

Hypnosis is an altered state of consciousness induced through suggestion in order to help you control certain parts of your body and/or senses. Hypnosis therapy was been practiced for centuries with excellent results obtained in relieving people of pain, stress, unwanted habits and/or alternate lifestyles.

Hypnosis Therapy Today

Many people approach today hypnosis therapy for a variety of reasons. These reasons can include quitting a life threatening habit like smoking or drinking, losing weight, pain relief and/or building self-confidence.

Like any other therapy, hypnosis will require a number of sessions in order to achieve results, which must be carried out as instructed by the hypnotist performing the hypnosis therapy. Hypnosis therapy cannot provide you with the desired results unless you are willing to get hypnotized and participate fully in the procedure, just as in the case of following a treatment with drugs.

Getting Hypnosis Therapy

Today you can luckily follow hypnosis therapy in at least couple of different ways, which are, through a professional hypnotist or at home through a self-inducing hypnosis CD. Many people are threatened by hypnosis fearing that the hypnotist may have too much power over your body and mind and may cause you harm in the process.

However, most of these practitioners are professionals and dedicated to their profession. Besides, you can always have a family member with you in the room when the therapy session being performed to ensure your safety at all times.

Many people feel ashamed about hypnosis therapy and hide it from the family and friends often feeling that it shows a sign of weakness. They cannot bring themselves to go to a hypnotist either, due to which reason they appeal to the self-inducing hypnosis CDs.

You should be aware that hypnosis is not harmful. On the contrary, it actually taps into your own resources to find strength and confidence as no drugs are involved at any time and therefore there are also no side effects.

Helpful Tip

If you decide to use hypnosis CDs, read the instructions carefully in order to achieve the desired results, because if you perform it the wrong way you will get frustrated and decide that hypnosis therapy does not work when in fact you had not applied it correctly. Do not expect magical results overnight as you will get disappointed. Follow the treatment as indicated and keep an open mind, and the results will not take long to follow.
